Swimwear, a water bottle to stay hydrated, and two towels — one to sit on in the sauna, one to dry off with afterwards. If you fancy the plunge pool, separate footwear you don't mind getting wet and muddy is worth bringing, along with something warm and cosy to change into once you're done — this is a working farm, not a spa car park.
-
Salt Grass sessions are wood-fired and communal — you'll be sharing the heat with a small group of fellow bathers on Apron Community Farm, working through rounds of heat, cold and rest at your own pace. It's less about the clock and more about the ritual of it: the crackle of the stove, the smell of wood smoke, long views over the farm between rounds, and a bit of quiet connection with whoever else is in there with you. Most people find 5–15 minutes at a time inside is plenty, with breaks outside or in the plunge pool in between — however many rounds feel right for you.
We run 60-minute sessions, plus shorter taster slots while we're getting going. Try to arrive 10–15 minutes early so you've got time to change before your slot starts

We've a changing area and an outdoor shower on site, and the ground is farm track rather than tarmac, so sturdy or waterproof footwear is worth having for the walk down.

Sessions are open to everyone, and families are welcome on the farm. If you're bringing anyone under 16, a couple of things are required by our insurance and can't be skipped: they must be accompanied at all times by a parent or guardian specifically (not just any accompanying adult), and that parent or guardian needs to sign a waiver confirming the relationship before the child is allowed to use the sauna. Under-16s also aren't covered for any cold-water activity — the plunge pool, an ice bath, or cold showers — regardless of supervision, so please plan around that if you're bringing children. [confirm: do you want a way for parents of younger children to request an exception in advance, similar to how you'd handle any other special request, or is 16-with-guardian a firm line?]
We don't currently have step-free or wheelchair access confirmed on site [confirm: is this the case, or has anything changed since the build? If a wheelchair user gets in touch, is there anything we can offer them?].
If you have high or low blood pressure, a heart or circulatory condition, epilepsy, diabetes, or are pregnant, please check with your doctor before booking, and let us know when you arrive so we can look out for you. If you start to feel dizzy, nauseous, or get a headache at any point, please leave the sauna straight away and let the nearest person know.
-
Yes — everyone signs a short liability waiver as part of booking. If you're bringing anyone under 16, their parent or guardian will also need to sign a separate waiver confirming that relationship before the child can use the sauna.
-
Take off jewellery before you go in, as the stove gets hot enough to burn skin under metal. Avoid a heavy meal or alcohol beforehand, and drink water rather than turning up dehydrated. If you have any medical conditions, are pregnant, or are on medication, do check with your GP before booking a sauna session.
-
Communal sessions are swimwear-on — you'll be sharing the space with people you don't know, so please come dressed to bathe rather than expecting a traditional naked sauna experience. [confirm: still an assumption on my end — let me know if you want it worded differently]
If you've booked the sauna privately, that's between you and your group — if everyone's happy to go without, that's fine, just sit on a towel and let us know in advance so we're not surprised.

IteBooking ahead through the website is the safest way to guarantee a spot, especially at weekends — sessions run in small groups with limited space (up to 12 people) [confirm: final capacity — pending confirmation against insurance max occupancy and physical capacity]. If you're an Apron Community Farm member, you'll get a discount at checkout. We may be able to squeeze in walk-ins if a slot's free, but we can't promise it, so book online where you can. [confirm: for walk-ins, can people pay by card on the day, or cash only, or do you want to keep it strictly online-booking-and-pay?]

Sessions are £13.50 per person [confirm: matches what's on file, but double-check this is still current before publishing]. Apron Community Farm members get a discount at checkout.

confirm/draft] If you need to cancel or move your session, we ask for at least 48 hours' notice so we can offer the space to someone else — with that notice we're happy to move you to another date or refund you. Inside 48 hours we're not able to offer a refund, as by then we've usually turned other bookings away for that slot. To cancel or reschedule,

Yes — you can hire the whole sauna for your group, whether that's a birthday, a small celebration or just a group of friends who'd rather not share with strangers. [confirm: do you want to offer a shorter private slot alongside the standard 60 minutes, e.g. 30 minutes, or keep it at one length?] Get in touch via [confirm: phone/email/WhatsApp] to check availability and we'll sort the details with you directly. [confirm: do you want to mention off-site/event hire at all, given the sauna's currently sited at Apron under a multi-year arrangement — or hold that back for now?]

Yes — two 400-litre oak whisky barrel plunge pools, filled with natural water and kept free of chemicals in keeping with how we've built the rest of the sauna (we don't run a separate ice bath, just the plunge). Ease yourself in for short dips to begin with rather than diving straight for a long plunge, and use it at your own pace and own risk — it isn't a supervised or guided part of the session. Under-16s aren't insured for any cold-water activity, so the plunge is for adults and accompanied teens 16 and over only.

Ours is a proper wood-fired stove, not electric, so there's no flicking a switch — it takes roughly 60–90 minutes to bring the sauna up to temperature from cold. That means your session time is set once you book, so please arrive on time rather than early expecting to jump straight in. Once up to heat you're looking at somewhere around 80–100°C depending on where you're sitting (the top bench runs hottest) and how the wind's behaving outside. Listen to your body rather than the clock — step out whenever you need to.
